Today, our 21st Century communication is digital and must be hosted on a "site"...just like a cave wall, except it has a domain name and IP address. As a visual anthropologist, I have kept up with the new forms of communication as part of my academic work. So, it was a big surprise to me that I find myself being asked to create websites in the private sector.
Okay...so I have to finally adjust to the fact that I'm designing websites and creating social media marketing campaigns as a formal business. I started using my skills as a visual anthropologist to help people with their websites a bit over a year ago...as a hobby. But, over the last year I've found myself working with some of my creative friends, small business owners, and non-profits to help them design their communications using today's complex array of digital tools. I've designed about 30 websites and worked with artists, community organizations and a variety of businesses over the last year. So, I decided I better design a website for myself to bring my skills in this arena to the world.
As a visual anthropologist I'm used to working with people different from me. I'm trained to bring people's cultures to life with film. And, I'm used to telling stories using visual media. Thus, I seem to be good using all these skills to help people design websites and use today's digital tools to tell their own stories. And, apparently I'm patient...which I chalk up to being a Boomer who is used to helping people my age or older deal with 21st Century technology.
So welcome to my new website, where you can see what I'm doing with website and social media design and marketing. You can check out my film production skills which can be utilized to create small videos for websites and online campaigns. And, you can see how I'm helping people Get SMART by helping them with their smart phones, smart televisions, and computer issues.
I look forward to working with you to turn your ideas into online art-ifacts.
